• Rathi Thiagamoorthy's arrival reinforces the firm's market-leading disputes practice as RPC continues to be the client's leading choice of law firm for complex, high value contentious matters
• Commercial Group growth continues with the firm adding 18 Commercial Partners in the last 20 months

International law firm RPC has hired Disputes Partner Rathi Thiagamoorthy to reinforce its Commercial Group's offering to clients across its growing areas of focus, including Retail and Tech. She joined RPC on 9 February 2022.

Rathi's arrival from Dentons' Dispute Resolution practice broadens the firm's litigation offering and reinforces RPC's market-leading position for handling the most complex domestic and cross-border disputes. She is experienced in handling a wide range of contentious matters, including those involving breach of contract claims, breach of warranty claims from acquisitions, private damages actions, cartel investigations, leniency applications and cryptocurrency-related disputes.

Having joined Dentons in 2008, Rathi qualified as a Solicitor in 2010 and a Solicitor Advocate in 2014. During her time at Dentons, Rathi has acted on a broad variety of high-value, multifaceted, cross-border litigation matters for national and international clients.

Rathi has considerable experience in retail litigation, including acting for a consortium of retailers in relation to a breach of competition law in respect of multilateral interchange fees. She also acted for a large national retailer in its claim against a supplier of faulty goods, which resulted in a nationwide product recall; and she has represented a large cryptocurrency exchange defending numerous claims as a result of a cyber attack, which caused loss to customers.

Head of Commercial Jeremy Drew said: "Rathi's arrival is driven by client need and is part of our ongoing drive to expand our highly regarded commercial offering, especially in our core sectors, including Retail and Tech, where we are known as market leading. Her hire reflects our ambition to continue to add high-calibre lawyers with a collaborative mindset to build out the support we give to clients on both UK and international contentious work."

Adding to this, Managing Partner James Miller said: "Rathi is a well-known disputes lawyer and is widely admired by clients and the wider legal market, committed to helping her clients achieve their ambitions. Continuing to attract high quality lawyers reflects the firm's ambition to support all of our clients' commercial needs, whether opportunities and challenges."

Commenting on joining RPC, Rathi Thiagamoorthy said: "It's an exciting time to join RPC with the firm investing heavily in growing its Commercial Group. I know RPC well and was immediately drawn to the firm's genuine commitment to collegiality, collaboration and the highest level of client service. RPC offers the perfect platform as I look to achieve my ambitions in a people-orientated culture. I can't wait to get started."

Rathi's arrival means the firm has welcomed 18 new Partners to its Commercial Group in the last 20 months across its UK, Hong Kong and Singapore offices, through a combination of strategic lateral hires and promotion of internal talent.
