The role of an in-house lawyer (a podcast with Will Bloomer)

Published on 30 November 2021

Welcome to Insurance Covered, the podcast that covers everything insurance. In this episode Peter is joined by Will Bloomer, Chief Corporate & Legal Affairs Officer at Howden Group and we will be discussing the role of an in-house lawyer in the insurance market.

We start by discussing what an in-house legal role entails and what attracted Will to the in house role. Will explains that an in house counsel role in the insurance industry involves working directly for an insurer or broker, whereas a private practice lawyer works for an external law firm. Will goes on to say the variety of an inhouse role was the key reason he opted to move away from private practice.

In this episode we also discuss:

  • Key differences between a private practice lawyer and in-house counsel.
  • Will's highlights from his time as in-house counsel
  • Will's current role at Howden Group
